"Edokko is THE place for Japanese Food" by Bill Douglas
March 07, 2009 I just went to a Sushi/Sake Meetup at the new Edokko Japanese restaurant, and it was FANTASTIC !! Best sushi I've had since I went to Japan years ago, and the premium sake was excellent. The place is gorgeous, its like walking into an elegant Japanese garden. But, as classy as it is, its got a nice casual feel to it. I really like Edokko, and am telling my friends about it, too.
"Excellent Sushi!" by marlina10
March 08, 2009 Great sushi restaurant! We went here on a friend's recommendations and she did not steer us wrong. I've been to several sushi restaurants around Kansas City and this may be the best one out of all them. I had the california roll, the lobster mango roll and the philadelphia roll and they were all awesome! Especially the lobster mango roll. The decor inside is very nice, too, and the wait staff was very attentive. We will definitely be coming back!
"Nice place" by TigerGoat
March 09, 2009 This is place just opened up, and I highly recommend trying it out. It is set in (of all places) a strip mall, but dont let that deter you from going in. Once you get inside, you will instantly forget that you are next door to a gaudy nail salon, and you will instead be entirely focused on the elegant and intricate decor, the wonderfully attentive staff and the great food being consumed all around you. Prices are very reasonable and its the best sushi Ive had since I was last on the west coast. Give it a try next time you want a nice evening out, and you too will find a new regular spot.

"Unsatisfying" by Unsatisfied Customer
April 23, 2009 I went to this so called "fancy or fine dining" restaurant as some would say. I was terribly unsatisfied. I went on a slow day, maybe three other customers there, and didn't even get seated until 20 minutes of waiting inside the door. When we finally got seated, and ordered our food, I recieved a soup bowl with soup and onions all over the plate underneath it. Then I recieved my nigiri and the sushi rice was hard and didn't even stick together like Japanese rice is supposed to. I sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chef didn't even take a glance at me and my husband. I would never recommend this place to anyone. This is not how a fine dining restaurant should be.
"Love it!!" by Mike
May 18, 2009 This restaraunt was recommended to me by a friend and I've become a regular. I visit the place at least twice a week and have always encountered great customer service at the door, great service at the bar and sushi bar. The owners, along with the staff are very friendly and knowledgable. They make you feel right at home. The atmosphere is astounding, with a beautiful decor! The food is outstanding..Try the "Leo special". It'll want you coming back for more. I'll also point out that the negative review which was given at the beginning of the review list is false. Who waits 20 minutes for a table and doesn't walk out angry. She said she did. 90% of the time I sit at the bar with a Samurai Ale or a delicious Ginger Martini, and every customer who walks in the door is greeted with a warm welcome. The gentlemen at the sushi bar always acknowledge anyone sitting there. Anyone who wants great Japanese food, visit Edokko!
"Best sushi in town." by pianomaster101
May 22, 2009 Today I chose to spend my evening at a place I've gone to once, sometimes twice or more every week since I found it. The Edokko Restaurant provides a very enjoyable dining experience with a wide variety of Japanese cuisine with a few Chinese influences that really blend well for a pleasurable experience for the entire palate. Sitting at the sushi bar, I couldn't help but start off with my favorite appetizer, baked chilea bass (?) I believe it's called. I then ordered a few of my favorite rolls. (I live for cooked eel :D) Speaking of the sushi, it has by far the best quality fish I've tasted anywhere in town, and in my years of tasting around I've found they give you a very nice slab of fish and the rolls are excellent quality in comparison to most. I felt compelled to write this review because I was more than shocked to read the negative review down the page!! First off I can't even imagine someone waiting twenty minutes to be seated. The managers are more than gracious and honestly in that amount of time most people would just seat themselves or leave. And I've sat at the sushi bar every time I've gone and found the chef's to be engaging and very generous with a few extra perks. I really have no idea where this person was coming from, and going on my what is easily more than my tenth time in a month, I've never had bad service. So I hope this makes up for the debby downer down the page, and please don't listen to them. Try Edokko, and trust me you'll become a regular like me.
"Found it!" by rcs388
June 10, 2009 I heard about Edokko almost a month ago from a friend who threw a party there, and I've been meaning to go for since then but had some mishaps. I wanted to go over lunch but I couldn't find the place. So I just called them, recommend this course since other people tend to give bad directions, and went back for dinner that night with my family. I am now in love. They have more sushi for less money than anywhere else I've been and the chef's will actually talk to you as opposed to a lot of other places I go. I didn't try the kitchen food, but my son finished the heaping plate of fried rice very quickly and my wife was done with her lobster terriaki, I can't spell, before I even snagged a bite. I took those signs to be good ones. The place itself is so nice and clean that I was worried I would mess up the nice new things they have. At the same time there was no pressure or rush and the atmosphere was very relaxing. The staff itself treated us like actual people, and I met the owner who chatted for a long time.My only concern with the place is that no one knows it's there.
"My Sushi Spot" by Chris Kelly
June 11, 2009 Since Edokko's grand opening I have enjoyed this restaurant around 20 times. All of those visits are due to the amazing service and quality which I receive every time I stop in.Upon entering, the first thing you will likely notice is the appearance of this establishment. Framed art, ambient lighting, and mosaic sumo wrestlers are just the beginning. Top to bottom, it is simply immaculate.Every visit I am seated promptly, often by the owner herself. After a brief and pleasant talk, I'll order something off either the kitchen or sushi menu. Either way, you can't go wrong. Even the noodles have presentation value with fresh cut citrus framing your entree. The sushi is fresh, and delicious displaying generous proportion.Edokko's bar is fully stocked, and is home to imported ales and my personal favorites.. the sake based drinks. It doesn't just end with the atmosphere and authentic foods, Edokko is host to special events and Meetup* groups. I enjoyed a sushi and sake pairing which was fantastic, both informative and satisfying. Please, if you've never been.. and if you're trying to decide if you should. Just go. You will find new food, new friends and a new restaurant to relax in and forget your troubles.

July 23, 2009 Best sushi in Kansas! Great atmosphere
"Great service and Awesome food!" by shogoc
July 24, 2009 Wanted to eat some sushi to celebrate my birthday and while we were preparing for the night out, decided to look up sushi in Google and saw Edokko. Didn't recognize it and figured it was fairly new, but also saw the very good reviews. Since it was closer to home than Sushi Gin where we were planning on going, we decided to give it a try and I am glad we did! The restaurant is located in a small strip mall and is very well decorated. We were seated immediately in a nice booth. The service was outstanding and our orders came out pretty quickly. We had two other women stop by the table and I can only assume that they were the manager and probably owner of the restaurant. I had sushi and it was phenomenal - definitely among the best that I've had in Kansas City. The fish portions were much larger than those of other sushi places in the area. My wife had a Salmon terriyaki dish that was also very good. We were talked into dessert, fried ice cream. By the end of the dinner, we were both stuffed and extremely happy with out choice.
"Best sushi in Kansas City & Fried Icecream" by Healthy Eater
November 19, 2009 Best sushi in town! Every time my husband and I eat here we get the spicy tuna roll and spice scallops roll. We RARELY eat out, but go here a lot! For the first time last night we ordered the fried ice cream for dessert.... Um, wow!! It was like funnel cake around ice cream with whipped cream, chocolate swirl and a cherry on top!! Honestly, bad thing we gave in and tried it!! I WANT MORE! Can't wait to go, again!
